CS Interview: Common Talks Here and Now and John Wick 12.11.2018

Paramount gave the opportunity to talk 1: 1 with Oscar winning Selma songwriter and actor Common (Suicide Squad, Girls Trip) about the new drama Here And Now starring Sarah Jessica Parker. We also talk briefly about the John Wick franchise! Here And Now is now in the theaters, and you can check out the interview below! Here and Now, which was formerly titled "Blue Night", follows the story of a successful singer-songwriter named Vivienne who has received a shocking life-changing news that challenges her to balance her music, family, and friends, and reflect on her successes and failures. With the support of her mother Jeanne and ex-husband Nick, Vivienne strives to make peace with the city around her.The cast includes Parker (Sex and the City) as Vivienne, Simon Baker (The Devil Wears Prada) and Nick, Common (Selma, Suicide Squad) as Ben, Taylor Kinney (Chicago Fire), Jacqueline Waleed Zuaiter Bisset (Murder on the Orient Express) and Jeanne and Renée Zellweger (Chicago, Bridget Jones' Diary). Here And Now is directed by Fabien Constant and was written by Laura Eason (House of Cards). Allison Benson (Divorce), Andrea Iervolino (The Merchant of Venice) and Lady Monika Bacardi (To The Bone) are the film's producers along with Parker. The film's executive producers are Phil Hunt (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies), Compton Ross (Black Mass), Anna Dokoza (Flight of the Conchords), and Luca Matrundola (In Dubious Battle).

CS: You have a small but important role in the film. Could you talk about what you drew to the project initially?Common: Well, I love movies that take place in one day, because usually that day has a lot going on for someone to write a movie about it. Sarah Jessica Parker's character finds out the news she finds out and has to go through her day and deal with the regular aspects of life and the ups and downs of life, and really not even tell anyone. As a reader and as audience members you really connect and feel for her and have empathy and care about her. And I wanted to be in something with Sarah Jessica Parker anyway. Obviously, she's a legendary person and actress. So I was just excited about that.CS: Do you have a favorite role of hers?Common: I mean, obviously it's "Sex and the City" for me. Like, that's what I know her most from.CS: Were you big-time in that show when you aired?Common: Well, what a funny thing there was a lady I was dating at the time, she really was into it, so I kind of got into it too, and it was just a fun show. It was part of the culture at that time. Everybody knew it, some would use it as a reference, so I was in it, just being around, so I appreciated it.CS: You play a manager in the movie. Since you're in the music business as well, what do you think it is that allows a manager to actually help an artist creatively?Common: I think what helps a manager help with an artist is first knowing that artist. Who they are, and knowing what their space is, meaning creatively what kind of things they get going and inspire them, where they sit on the market, and how to connect them with that. The manager's job is how to give them that platform to make it as ... not convenient but give them access to all the things they need to be at their best. I think what makes a good manager know what drives your artist, what drives the person you are representing, and also being able to be honest.CS: Where do you think your character Ben falls in that spectrum?Common: Definitely he is a truth teller, but on the same token he is also the caretaker too. He nurtures her because he has a true friendship and bond with her that is beyond any romantic thing, beyond any dynamic manager. He just cares for her as a person. I think that's important, that as a manager you can care for the individual that you may be representing. But yeah, my character really fell in the place of someone who really cared and was honest, but also knew how to give her a hug when she needed a hug and give her a reprimand or a correction when she needed a correction.CS: One of my favorite things in "John Wick: Chapter 2" was your character Cassian, because of all the people that Wick went up against Cassian was the closest to being on the same level as him. He felt like a guy who was formidable. Can you talk a little bit about coming back for the third part?Common: I'm not in the third part, but I could say that I really loved being part of "John Wick 2" and it was an amazing experience. Working with Keanu and Chad, they're just phenomenal. Challenged and really passionate about the stuff, and I can say that three is going to be incredible, though, I'll tell you that much.

Netflix feature Uncorked lands Niecy Nash and Courtney B. Vance

Niecy Nash and Courtney B. Vance have been tapped to star in Uncorked, the Hollywood Reporter. The Netflix feature film marks the directorial debut of Prentice Penny, who was the showrunner on HBO's Insecure.
The film follows a young man, played by Mamoudou Athie, who is driven to become a sommelier despite his father's push to take over the family BBQ business.
It's rare that black people get to tell a father-son story without Father's absence serving as the catalyst for the story, "said Penny. That was never my experience, and I think it's more important than ever that art reflects our humanity and who we are as regular people, rather than just being defined by the color of our skin or the trauma that has happened to us.
The project is slated to begin filming in Memphis later this month before moving the production overseas to Paris. The co-executive producers included NBA stars Tony Parker and Michael Finley, as well as NFL-ers Drew Brees and Derrick Brooks.
Nash will be seen in director Ava DuVernay's limited Netflix series Central Park Five, where Vance will have a supporting role in Peter Hedge's upcoming addiction drama Ben is Back.

Tall men and dwindling women form the happiest couples

Tall men and dwindling women form really adorable couples, but did you know that research shows that they are also perfect couples?
Here's why! In a study by a team of researchers from Konkuk University in South Korea, it was found that couples with a higher height difference tend to have a better and longer relationship than the others.
The authors of the study collected data from 7,850 couples over an extended period of time. According to Dr. Kitae Sohn, the lead investigator of the team, it was observed that a great difference in height between the couple's partners was correlated with the wife's happiness.
Also, women's preference for tall men has increased female reproductive skills. Doctor Sohn mentioned that women simply like the tall men.
Although the researchers do not know exactly why women prefer tall men, this behavior of women may be similar to why people want sweets, salty foods or even fatty foods.
It has something to do with how the brain works when it is still evolving.
In another study, conducted in 2013 by a team of Dutch psychologists, it was found that women prefer higher men because they are perceived as stronger and more skilled in avoiding physical threats to the family.
In short, women are attracted to taller men because in the past they were believed to be better hunters and can take care of the family by providing them with everything they need for a good living.
In a study by the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Michigan, it has been found that women are attracted to taller men because they tend to have more self-confidence.
Another study supports the idea that taller men are more likely to become wealthy and financially stable compared to younger men.
This is due to the nutrition that the taller men had in their childhood and through which they strengthened their cognitive and human abilities, giving them an advantage to seem more capable, trustworthy and confident.
Therefore, they are the ones who are promoted more often and become managers, CEOs and team leaders.
Returning to the initial study, it has been shown that only a man's height can not predict the success of the relationship. Height is a factor in the first 18 years of the relationship, which means it will not matter a few years after.
At the end of the day, all the couple have the duty to manage their relationship. Although it was known that women prefer tall men in relationships for evolutionary reasons, no study has investigated whether a higher husband can make a happier wife.
A higher height difference in a couple is positively correlated with the wife's happiness.
